About Ila

Ila Gupta, Bristol, England (1989-90)

Dr. Ila Gupta works as an Associate Professor of Arts in the Department of Architecture and Planning, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. She had her education in Fine Arts up to Ph. D. (1984) and had been engaged as a free lancer in India and abroad until 1996, when she joined as a faculty at IIT Roorkee (then University of Roorkee). In the last 15 years, she has taught courses on different aspects of Art – colour fundamentals, graphics, art and culture, history of art, rendering etc. to students of Architecture. Besides, three students have completed Ph. D. and two are working on themes related to Art in Architecture, under her supervision.

She is driven by a passion to promote the role of Art in Architecture. Architects from different parts of the country have participated in a number of short term courses and workshops organized by her with a focus on modern trends in product design, interior design, graphic design and colour applications. She has also been occasionally involved in industrial consultancy projects which require selection of colour scheme/aesthetics for products, buildings (interior/exterior).

 

She has had the honor to do a number of Art related projects for IIT Roorkee such as RCC Scuptures, Collages, Cover Designs for IITR publications, Logo designs etc. In 1997, during 150th year foundation celebrations of the University of Roorkee, her design appeared on the First Day Cover of the postal stamp released by the Govt. of India on University of Roorkee. In 2001, when University of Roorkee was converted in to Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, its official seal was designed by Dr. Ila. Again recently, Dr.Ila had the honour to design the official seal of a IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
